GA4 migration guide

How to migrate from GA3 to GA4

  1. In Google Analytics, click Settings Admin (lower left).
  2. In the Account column, make sure that your desired account is selected. (If you only have one Google Analytics account, it’s already selected.)
  3. In the Property column, select the Universal Analytics property that currently collects data for your website.
  4. In the Property column, click GA4 Setup Assistant. It’s the first option in the Property column.
  5. Click Get started under I want to create a new Google Analytics 4 property.
  6. Click Create and Continue.
  7. Under Install Manually, copy the code.
  8. Click Confirm.
  9. Go to Property Access Management and add the users of the UA site.
  10. Go to data streams and confirm that the URL is correct (with https).
  11. Login to your WordPress site.
  12. Install Head & Footer Code plugin.
  13. Go to Tools > Head & Footer Code.
  14. Paste the code in the Head field.
  15. Once it’s done, wait for a few hours, as the installation can take up to 48 hours to fully activate.

If your site is linked to an adwords account

Then in step 6:

  1. In setup assistant go to Google Ads > Link to Google Ads and on actions click Import from Universal Analytics.
  2. Select your kit and click Import selected ad links on top right.

 

  1. In Choose how to set up a Google tag select Install a google tag.
  2. Under Install Manually, copy the code.
  3. Under property, under Product Links, select Google Ads links.
  4. Click the Link button.
  5. Click Choose Google Ads account.
  6. Select your account and click confirm.
  7. Click next, next and submit.

What if I see the You do not have editor permissions. Contact your account admin. message?

  1. Click Account Access Management.
  2. Select Administrator.

Mark as complete

In order for your client to stop receiving emails from Google, you must Mark as complete all relevent tasks (7/7) in Setup Assistant.

Should I Remove the UA Tag From My Website?

Many marketers will continue to use Universal Analytics along with GA4 until the 1st of July. This way, you’re able to get acquainted with the new generation of Google Analytics. After that date, you can remove the UA tag from your website and continue with GA4.

How to delete a Google Analytics property

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics.
  2. Click Admin, and navigate to the property you want to delete.
  3. In the PROPERTY column, click Property Settings.
  4. Click Move to Rubbish Bin.
  5. On the confirmation screen, click Move to Bin.
